THE CLARENDON FOUNDATION: PROVIDING
HOPE FOR THE CHILDREN OF SRI LANKA

For the last five years, our parish has supported a charity in a country
that highlights a particular culture within our community. In the past,
the parish has raised money for charities in Mexico, Vietnam, the Philippines
and most recently, Uganda. This year the parish will sponsor
the Clarendon Foundation, a non-profit organization that has been
providing a better life for orphaned and impoverished children in Sri
Lanka since 1990.

The Clarendon Children’s Home is located in Mount Lavinia, a suburb
outside the city of Colombo, and is under the care of the Sisters of
Mary Immaculate. They currently provide care and a stable home environment
for 75 young girls, ages 2 to 18 years old. Each child receives
food, clothing, healthcare and an education. Many of these children
were displaced, homeless, and orphaned after the devastating tsunami
that killed thousands of people in 2004. It is at Clarendon that these
children have been given a better life filled with love, support and hope
for the future.

They are currently in the process of expanding the space they have
with a newly acquired building that can house more children. Our parish
will be collecting donations and we will also have a fundraiser
event on Saturday, April 28 to raise money to help furnish this new
facility. Parishioners will have the opportunity to lend their support by
donating money that will be used to buy beds, desks, chairs and more.
Our support can help the Clarendon Foundation achieve their goals of
helping the poor and the underprivileged children of Sri Lanka. For
more information visit http://clarendonfoundation.org/index.php

SAFEGUARD THE CHILDREN

Internet Spammers Target Kids, Too

Does your child know what to do when he or she gets an e-mail from
an unknown person? If you are allowing your children to communicate
with others online, be aware that they will be exposed to spam. The
easiest way to avoid spam is to make sure that your children do not
give out their personal information or e-mail address to anyone they
do not know. Adjust the security settings on their e-mail account to
filter or block unwanted messages. Encourage your children to delete
any messages they get from anyone they don’t know. Even when your
children get e-mail or instant messages from people they know, make
sure that they scan everything they are downloading for viruses first.
You can do this by making sure that you have your antivirus software
up to date.

TOGETHER IN MISSION 2012
A Time for Reflection

Together in Mission provides substantial financial support to 35 parishes
and 52 schools in our Archdiocese. These parishes and schools
provide education, ministry and a Catholic presence for tens of thousands
of our sisters and brothers.

Sometimes it is difficult to envision how your pledge can help so many
people. But, it does. To see how, please review the materials and read
the statements of those whose parishes and schools receive support.
The theme of the campaign is “Be Imitators of... Christ.” 1Cor 1:11
Together in Mission provides an opportunity to show our concern for
those served by the parishes and schools that need your financial support.
If you received your pledge form in the mail, please complete it and
mail it back.

respuesta.

REVISED ROMAN MISSAL: THE LITURGY OF THE
EUCHARIST – PREPARATION OF THE GIFTS

The New Roman Missal has made many changes to the prayers used in
The Liturgy of the Eucharist. Most of these, however, are the responsibility
of the Priest Presider. As members of the Assembly, the People of
God have a two-fold responsibility: (1) to listen well and join our hearts
and minds to the prayers which are spoken on our behalf by the Priest;
(2) to speak our part with reverence and deep conviction.

The Liturgy of the Eucharist begins with the Preparation of the Gifts.
This part of the Mass is brief and contains few changes. At most Sunday
liturgies, a hymn is sung as the gifts are collected and presented
and the altar is prepared, so that the prayers are spoken quietly by the
Priest and not usually audible to the Assembly. The one spoken change
that the people have is found in the dialog just before the Prayer over
the Offerings.

The Priest now says, “Pray, brothers and sisters, that my sacrifice and
yours may be acceptable to God, the almighty Father.”

The new response is: “May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands
for the praise and glory of his name, for our good and the good of all
his holy Church.” The word holy is in the Latin text, so it has been
added here.

In the Preparation of the Gifts, we are reminded that it is not only the
gifts of bread and wine that are being offered to God for transformation,
but also the gifts of ourselves and the fruits of our labors. The
collection that is taken up supports the mission and ministry of our
community of faith, especially with regard to the poor and the disadvantaged.

We also offer ourselves, asking God to make of us a HOLY
church, a HOLY priesthood, faithful to our baptismal commitment.
