WELCOME TO OUR FAMILY OF FAITH!

Thank you for choosing St. Joseph the Worker for your child’s Religious Education and spiritual growth. We are dedicated to being your partner in your family faith formation. We are very happy to welcome your family to our parish program. Here are a few recommendations as you begin this journey with us:

· If you are NEW in our parish, PLEASE pick up a parish BULLETIN for our NEWS & MASS SCHEDULE.

· If you would like to become a member of our parish, please fill out a parish registration form and return it to the Parish Center.

Registration Requirements and Program Policies

for all New Families in our Program:

1. All students and their families are expected to attend Mass on Sundays and all Holy Days of Obligation. This is a firm requirement before recommendation for the First Penance and First Holy Communion preparations.

2. Registered parishioners at S.J.W will be given priority placement at registration.

3. All families are asked to contribute at least 10 hours of service a year to the parish through the RE program or other volunteer efforts. Your family will be asked to contribute $ 5.00 for each hour not completed by April 30, 2009.

4. The following forms must be completed in their entirety to ensure placement in the program:

a. The Student Registration form

b. The Parents Commitment to service form

c. The Emergency release/medical information form

d. Please SUBMIT a current photo of your child (wallet size), for our emergency records.

5. We MUST have a copy of the student BAPTISM & BIRTH certificate on record in the office. PLEASE bring original copies at Registration time.

6. Payment of at least one half tuition is due at registration time. The balance of all tuition is

due by December 31, 2008 or a $5.00 late fee will be charged.

7. Parents are expected to attend an orientation and 2 mandatory meetings scheduled in the year. No child will be allowed in class until parents have attended the orientation. Calendar of classes, parents meetings & the handbook will be given out on orientation day.

8. Students MUST attend 80% of their classes for proper credit. NO more than 3 absentees in the year.

9. Continued or repeated tardiness will accumulate as absences. Each class is an important part of the experience of their faith formation and growth.

For your information:

· Your child’s tuition fee is used to cover all the expenses of your children’s textbooks and materials used in the year. (Crayons, glue, scissors, paper, copies, toner & much more…)

· Part of tuition goes to Catechist’s formation and training to improve your child’s faith formation in the classroom. Each of our Catechists is a volunteer. Non of them receives any salary from the parish.

· Parent meetings, hospitality, liturgies, music, speakers, special gatherings, office supplies, school damage or vandalism, A.V., First Penance & First Communion materials & supplies.

If your family has an immediate need of our financial assistance, please see our faith formation team for assistance. We would like to work with you and your family. No Religious Education will be denied to anyone because of financial hardship.

If you would like to volunteer your time as an assistant or and would like to teach a class, please let us know. Training and formation available.

PARENT INVOLVEMENT COMMITTEES:

1 - HOSPITALITY

A- Organizing, setting-up, serving and cleaning-up class parties,

B- Faculty parties

C- First Sacraments receptions

D- Catechetical Sunday, Christmas Party/Others

E- Parents meetings.

F- Serving coffee, juice and donuts after a Sunday morning masses.

G- Greeting or ushering at your mass of choice on Sundays.

2 - CLASSROOM ASSISTANTS and ROOM PARENTS

A- We enjoy having two adults in each classroom for a better adult child ratio, and in case of emergency.

The assistant supports the Catechist by taking role, prepping projects and doing other background chores for a fun class.

B- ROOM moms or dads help the class at special celebrations by organizing treats and parties, and remembrances of the day. They are also in charge of creating a Thank you card for the daytimeteacher on the last day of our classes.

3- OFFICE

A - Office assistant during your child class schedule

B - Emergency communications by phone for class cancellations or other communications.

General mailing stuffing, filing, paperwork including photocopying. Light computer data input.

4- FUNDRAISING

Joining one or more of the parish fundraising efforts that supports and maintain our church, school, hall, and campus.

A - Annual summer FESTIVAL, PARISH AUCTION, capital CAMPAIGN others as they arise.

5 - WORK PARTIES & CHURCH CLEAN -UP

A- Monthly, our parents are asked to join in a Saturday morning work party to do general cleaning and repair of the school building, pavilion and church which includes : sweeping, dusting, polishing furniture, pruning and others light chores.

B- We are also interested in volunteers who can maintain a computer and copy machines.

C- If you enjoy decorating, you can HELP the Liturgical Committee decorated the church throughout the year.

6- FIRST RECONCILIATION & FIRST HOLY COMMUNION

Help in the decorating for each celebration, the attending of last minutes preparations including greeting and ushering at the events and following up with the distribution of photos & videos. BEFORE, DURING & AFTER each event, this will include preparing decorations for each celebration, assisting on that day as greeters & ushers.

7- CHRISTIAN SERVICE

We have two Christian service ministries in the parish that you are invited to join: St. Vincent the Paul whose service to the needy includes proving Thanksgiving baskets and toys at Christmas. The other group offers lunch to the homeless form our parish kitchen daily.

Or be part on planing/ helping in special celebration in the Parish such as Priest anniversaries, special masses etc.

8-LEAD A TEAM AS CAPTAIN OR CO-CAPTAIN

Lead a team or be the coordinator of these parent committees. This person will make sure that every committee is covered and will act as a contact person.

9- OTHER

Any parent involved in any other ministry in the parish such as: Ushers, Eucharist Minister, Semilla del Reino, Crecimientos, Pre- Bautismal team, Choirs, etc ect.

10- WORK AT HOME

We may have some projects to go home very occasionally, you will need to be checking with us at the office weekly.

Infant Baptism

The sacrament of Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit, and the door that gives access to the other sacraments. The Baptism program prepares parents, godparents, and families seeking to bring their child into the Catholic faith. The preparation for Baptism involves a welcome meeting with one of our priests or a member of the coordinating team where you may ask any questions you might have. Parents then attend two classes, conducted by members of our catechetical team, designed to further help you prepare and to schedule your child's baptism.

Preschool (Early Childhood Program) – Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten

Teaches young children who God is . How He loves us and what great things He has created for us. This is considered a “religious readiness” program, helpful to laying a good foundation for formal religious training.

Elementary – Grades 1 through 5

The program for elementary school children gradually presents all the truths of the Catholic faith over the course of five years. The curriculum is cumulative, building upon knowledge acquired from year to year. Therefore, each level is important even in non-sacramental preparation years.

Middle School – Grades 6 through 8

The sessions prepare our middle school youth to live their Catholic faith as they enter adolescence. The program incorporates a variety of components, including guest speakers, social activities, service opportunities, films, and prayer experiences.

High School – Grades 9-12
The Sacrament of Confirmation

These sessions include the two-year process that prepares students for the Sacrament of Confirmation, the rite that completes Christian initiation for teenagers. The process includes service opportunities, retreat and prayer experiences, and educational activities to live our baptismal commitment within our parish community. Parents play an essential role in supporting the candidates as they progress through the Confirmation process.

Special Education

We are pleased to offer Sacramental preparation classes for students enrolled in a Special Education program in public school. Judy Walsh, an educator with the Los Angeles Unified School District for more than 30 years, coordinates this program.

Vacation Bible Camp

A Catholic summer camp experience for elementary and middle school children. The camp is in session for two weeks, half days in the month of July.

Adult Education

The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) is a program available to adults (also available for teens and children of catechetical age 6 and over) who have never been baptized and who are seeking membership in the Roman Catholic Church. The program also welcomes those baptized in another Christian denomination who now wish to join the Catholic Church by making a profession of faith. Baptized Catholics who have not received the sacraments of initiation are encouraged to enroll in order to receive preparation for First Eucharist and Confirmation.

Family Ministry: "Gathering Families"

Workshops provide a forum of support for parents every Saturday morning at 11am in Spanish, and once monthly in English, on Wednesday at 4pm.

The Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Eucharist

The preparation for the sacraments of First Reconciliation (Confession) and First Eucharist takes place during the second year of Religious Education instruction for elementary and middle school students. the cooperation of parents is essential to the success of this sacramental preparation program. Parents are asked to attend two information meetings during the year.

¡BIENVENIDOS A NUESTRA FAMILIA DE FE!

Gracias por escojer el programa de Educación Religiosa de San José Obrero para el crecimiento espiritual de sus niños. Nuestro programa esta dedicado a ser su compañero en la formación de la fe de su familia. ¡Nos da mucho gusto darles la bienvenida! He aqui algunas recomendaciones al inició de está jornada con nosotros:

· Si son NUEVOS en nuestra Parroquia, por favor tome un boletin parroquial para que se entere de lo que ocurre en nuestra comunidad parroquial y para nuestro HORARIO de MISAS.

· Si le gustaria inscribirse para ser miembro de nuestra parroquia, por favor tome y llene la forma de registración parroquial y regresela a las oficina de la parroquia.

Requisitos de Registración y Reglamentos del Programa

para todas las Familias NUEVAS :

1. Se espera que todos los estudiantes y su familia asistan a Misa todos los Domingos y dias de obligación. Este es un requisito firme, antes de recomendar a su niño(a) para la preparación a la Primera Confesión y Primera Communión.

2. Familias registradas en nuestra parroquia tendrán prioridad en nuestro programa.

3. Todas las familias en el programa debén contribuir con 10 horas de servicio comunitario a la iglesia, atraves del programa de Educación Religiosa u otros ministerios. Se le pedirá una donación de $ 5.00 por cada hora no completada para el 30 de Abril del 2009.

4. Las siguientes formas tendrán que ser completadas y submitidas con toda la información requerida en ellas para asegurarse un lugar en el progama:

a. La Forma de Registración del Estudiante

b. La Forma de Compromiso al servicio de parte los Padres

c. La Forma de Emergencia e información medica del Estudiante

d. Favor de SUBMITIR una Foto reciente de su niño/a(tamaño cartera), en caso de emergencia.

5. Todos los estudiantes DEBEN tener una copia de su certificado de bautismo y nacimiento en los archivos de la oficina. Por favor traiga copias originales al momento de registrar.

6. Se REQUIERE, por lo menos la mitad de la cuota al momento de registrar. El balance, tendrá que ser pagado para el Diciembre 31, 2008 ó se le hará un cargo de $ 5.00.

7. Se REQUIERE que los padres asistán a una Reunión de Orientación y a Dos Reuniones de padres programadas en el año. el Calendario de clases, fechas de las reuniones de padres y pamfletos de información serán entregados el dia de la orientación. NINGUN niño(a) será admitido en clase si los padres no han asistido a la Orientación.

8. Estudiantes DEBEN asistir un 80% a sus clases de catecismo en el año para darles el credito apropiado. Esto quiere decir NO mas de 3 AUSENCIAS en el año.

9. Llegadas tarde con mucha continuidad o en repetidas ocasiones se acumularán como ausencias en clase. Cada una de las clases es una parte importante en la experiencia de la formación de la fe.

Para Su Información:

· La couta de registración de sus niños sirve para cubrir los gastos de todos los materiales y libros de texto que sus niños usarán en clase durante todo el año. (crayones, papel, tijeras, copias, resistol, cartulinas,lapices, y mucho mas…)

· Parte de esta couta va a la formación y entrenamiento de los Catequistas para mejorar la formación de sus niños en los salones de clase. Cada uno de nuestros Catequistas son personas voluntarias. Ninguno de ellos depende de un salario de parte de nuestra parroquia.

· Gastos relacionados con las reuniones de padres, liturgías, hospitalidad, materiales para uso de oficina, musica, certificados, presentaciones especiales, materiales y cosas necesarias para la celebración de los sacramentos.

· Si su familia esta pasando por alguna dificultad economica inmediata y necesita asistencia con la couta de sus niños, por favor hable con nuestro equipo de formación. Nos gustaria trabajar con su familia acerca de esta necesidad. A ningun niño se le negará la preparación Religiosa en nuestro programa por falta de dinero.

Si a usted le gustaria dar su tiempo voluntario ayudando en un salón de clases o tiene experiencia como Catequista ó le gustaria ser Catequista y enseñar una clase el próximo año por favor haganóslo saber. Entrenamiento y formación disponible.

COMITES de PADRES:

1- HOSPITALIDAD

Las personas interesadas en este ministerio, tendrán a su cargo:

A- la organización, arreglo, y distribucion de refrigerios asi como tambiem el recojer/limpiar despues de alguna fiesta de los niños,

B- Catequistas y recepciones especiales que incluyen la celebración del Domingo Catéquetico (Octubre)

C- Las reuniones de padres.

D- Tambien de ves en cuando: Servir café , jugo y donuts despues de las misas de las mañana los domingos.

E- Dar Bienvenida y servir como Ujier en la misa de su preferencia los Domingos.

2 - ASISTENTES DE SALONES DE CLASES y Padres REPRESENTANTES:

Se requiere la prensencia de dos adultos en cada salón de clases para proporcionar mejor atención a los niños y por cualquier otra emergencia.

A- La/el asistente, es un gran apoyo para la/el catequista tomando asistencia a los niños, preparando proyectos manuales y pequeñas responsabilidades dentro del salón de clases para hacerla mas divertida.

B- Los Padres representes: son los encargados de organizar las celebraciones para los niños del salón que se le asigne ( Puede ser el salón, al que asiste su niño) y ayuda con las preparaciones previas a toda celebracion, a preparar los refrigerios y regalitos que se ofrezcan ese dia a los niños ademas de contactar a los demas padres de ese salón para que ayuden con donaciones o durante la celebración. Y al final del año encargarse de hacer una tarjeta especial de “agradecimiento” para la maestra del salón de clases de la escuela.

3- OFICINA & TELEFONO - Nesecitamos ayuda como asistente de oficina durantre el horario de clases y de personas para hacer comunicaciones de emergencia a los padres, tales como la cancelación de clases y otras comunicaciones importantes. Ayudar en la oficina preparando correo, ordenando y archivando, fotocopias y un poco de computación si fuera necesario. ( Se Proveerá entrenamiento)

4- COMITE para RECAUDAR FONDOS ( FUNDRAISING) - Este comite trabaja con los demas comites de recaudación de fondos de la parroquia, uniendo esfuerzos para hacer mejoras en la escuela, el salón parroquial, el edificio de la iglesia y terrenos de la parroquia. Algúnos de estos esfuerzos son:

A- El FESTIVAL anual en junio, SUBASTAS, CAMPAÑA capital y otras que se vayan presentando.

5- LIMPIEZA GENERAL DE LA ESCUELA é IGLESIA -

A- Una vez por mes, padres de la escuela y de nuestro programa se reunirán para darle mantenimiento general a la escuela y hacer pequeñas reparaciones en los salones de clase, pavellones, portal y dentro de la iglesia, esto incluye, desempolvar, limpar pupitres, escritorios y ventanas, barrer, pasar aspiradora, dar brillo a las bancas de la iglesia y otros trabajos pequeños. Estamos tambien interesados en una persona para que nos ayude con el mantenimiento de la computadora y fotocopiadora.

B- Si disfruta decorando, puede participar en el “comite de ambientación de la iglesia” decorando la iglesia.

6- COMITE DE PRIMERA RECONCILIACION & PRIMERA COMUNION -

A- Ayudar con la decoración de cada una de las celebraciones y con detallles previos o de último minuto,

B- ANTES, DURANTE Y DESPUES de cada evento. incluyendo Hospitalidad y bienvenida o siendo Ujier durante la celebración de Primera Reconciliación y misas de Primera Comunión. Tambien si es posible ayudar con la distribuición de fotografias y videos.

7- SERVICIO CRISTIANO - La parroquia cuenta con dos ministerios que se encargan de ayudar a los mas necesitados de nuestra parroquia. San Vicente de Paul es un grupo que provée su servicio a las personas sin hogar con comida, ropa, canastas en el dia de acción de gracias y juguetes para los niños en navidad. El otro grupo ofrece almuerzos diariamente a los desamparados desde la cocina de nuestra parroquia.

Otras oportunidades de servicio comunitario son el ser parte en la planeación y ayudar en eventos especiales de nuestra parroquia, tales como Misas de aniversario y de agradecimiento etc, etc.

8 -DIRIJIR O COORDINAR UN COMITE- Las personas interesadas se harán cargo de contactar a personas que se anotarón en estos comites, darles la información necesaria y ver que este comite este cubierto y trabajando en el area correspondiente.

9- OTROS- Este aplica a todos los padres de familia que ya cumplen con alguna función en cualqueir ministerio dentro de nuestra parroquia. por ejemplo: Ujieres, Ministros de Eucarístia, Semilla del Reino, Crecimientos, Equipo prebautismal, grupo de Oración, Lectores, Coro etc, etc..

10- TRABAJO EN CASA: Hay algunas oportunidades en el año para hacer trabajo desde casa.
